      • Depression, Anxiety and Stress

Depression, anxiety and stress can arise and affect people in very different ways. Ongoing and unmanageable stress, perhaps at work, or following a series of rapid personal changes or losses, such as the end of a relationship or bereavement. Can be the cause.

Sometimes the roots of depression or anxiety can be connected to experiences from earlier in life.
You may feel low, anxious or overwhelmed, havedifficulty sleeping, become irritable, find yourself caught up in negative thoughts, or experience a sense of hopelessness. Sometimes people also experience thoughts about not wanting to live any more. Or perhaps you are feeling constantly nervous or on edge, irritable, with physical symptoms of a dry mouth, sweatiness, or you might be having panic attacks.

There can be many different reasons for feeling this way. Your GP may be able to offer medication to help alleviate the worst of the symptoms, if you feel this would be helpful. Therapy can also help to alleviate symptoms and, importantly, provide an opportunity to understand what
may be contributing to how you are feeling, and help understand and address the underlying causes,.

Developing a deeper understanding of yourself, your circumstances and your ways of responding can create opportunities to make changes and develop different ways of coping. It can also help you recognise when difficulties are beginning to build, so that you are better able to look
        after yourself in the future.
